Here we are again - the next installment of our Scatterdays challenge. This week is the letter 'I'. Our subjects for this letter are: Money; Tools; Metal; and from the sewing room Inchies. Another tough one. But I think I have conquered it!!
Money - International Bank Notes. One needs to have plenty of these when you travel, otherwise you have to use your card and I, for one, am very reluctant to use mine following my first trip to the USA in 2009 when my CC was compromised.
Tools - my father's cast Iron Shoe last - this will probably bring back memories for some of you. I salvaged this from my father's 'man cave' after he passed away and we were cleaning it out. I always remember him mending my brother's and my school shoes. I actually now use it for a pot plant stand, but this is a photo without the plant.
Metal - my son's muscle-building Iron weights - I thought about using these for 'Tools' and was going to swap the Shoe Last for these. There was a time when he had them in his bedroom, until I stubbed my toe while vacuuming - then they were relegated to the shed. This was before he came back home to live while looking for a new place - BUT they have never come back inside the house!
Inchies from the Sewing Room - my unfinished Postage Stamp Quilt - made with 1.5" squares, sewn to finish at 1". The black is also cut and sewn to finish at 1". A big project and is near the top of my UFO list to be finished this year. Only needs a border and then quilting and binding. I have no idea how to quilt this one - so any ideas would be most acceptable (as long as they are easy.....I will be doing this on my domestic Pfaff).
There we have it for another fortnight. Please remember to visit Cinzia's blog - link on right hand side to see everyone else's postings.
Till next time,
Thank you for visiting and take care,
Joy

Oh, yes, my Dad had one of those shoe lasts, too. Now I'm wondering where it is.
Your "I" words are very impressive! That international money takes the cake! Ingenious! But truthfully, the most impressive thing is that inchies quilt. Wow! You're to be commended for working on that small size to make something that big. Scrap quilts are always the best, and you've outdone us all. Great job all around.
Hi, Joy! Yes, I love the quilts you have been making. The shoe 'tool' is also in my parents' garage and can still remember Dad resoling and reheeling our shoes. Visits to the bookmaker were rare. That must have been a sickening experience with your plastic money. The real thing is certainly more colourful.
Love your quilt Joy. Your father's last, what a wonderful treasure to keep. With the prices of shoes these days and the not so good quality, your fathers shoes would have outlasted today's.
Dear Joy: How lovely to see some Canadian money in your International selection! I've never seen a shoe last before, but I can imagine how vital it would be for repairs. And: from one postage stamper to another: that's a lovely one. When I quilted mine, I used a diagonal squiggle in some parts (sort of a vague half circle from corner to corner). For yours, you could do this too so you'd have meandering parallel curves going up and down the quilt. Just a suggestion - I'm sure you have more interesting ideas.
What a beautiful quilt, but inchies are much too small for me to work with.
The show last brought back memories, we had one at home when I was growing up, and rubber soles were stuck on to the shoes to give them another lease of life. My great grandfather was a cobbler, and I bet he never used rubber, it would be leather all the way, I expect.
Love your inchies quilt have been thinking of doing something like this....one day I didnt manage to do mine this week maybe next time
I love your inchie quilt lots of work I didn't manage to get to my letters this week.
I remember my father used a shoe last to mend the family's shoes too - not sure what happened to it. I'm impressed by your inchies quilt - you obviously have more patience than me!
My dad mended our shoes on a shoe last too. What amazing patience you must have to make a postage stamp quilt. It is beautiful
Hi Joy, never thought of using a shoe last. I'm sure we have one in the shed. Love your inchies quilt, I'd probably quilt it with lots of free motion loops.
well done Joy. I have or had one of those shoe lasts and just remembered an inch cat quilt I had forgotten.
Wow!! three out of four were actually things that you owned and definitely interesting things. Love your dad's shoe last.
